Frequently Asked Questions
Benefits of Using Towai's Automatic Additive Dosers
The benefits of using our Dosers for the automatic dosing or treatment of fuel are:
- It dispenses the correct volume of fuel additive for each fuel fill without any input from the driver or operator.
- You can rest easy knowing that the fuel is being correctly treated with your choice of fuel additive.
What dispensing control options can our Dosers support?
Towai Technologies' Automatic Additive Dosers are able to support the full range of dispensing options, including the following:
- Fuel tank level sensors - both analogue and digital - for vehicles, machines and vessels.
- Flowmeters in a fuel delivery system - supports the full range of delivery fuel flow pressures.
- Vehicle onboard computers - supports both the J1939 (CAN) and J1708 (RS485) protocol networks.
- Keypad entry of the volume of fuel added - for when no suitable fuel level sensor is fitted.
Can our Dosers be used for any fuel additive?
Yes they can. The dosing ratio is adjustable and can be set to the ratio of all known fuel additives.
What is the effect of temperature on additive viscosity?
Additives can range from solvent types with temperature having little effect on viscosity to more viscous types where temperature has a marked effect.
Our Automatic Additive Dosers take into account the effect of ambient temperature changes on additive viscosity, pumpability and flow rates. This is used in the Doser's Electonic Control Board calculations to ensure that the correct volume of additive is dispensed for varying climatic temperature conditions.
Our Dosers also have the means to control the minimum temperature and hence viscosity of the additive by having a heater fitted as an optional extra, which is necessary in colder climates.
How is the volume of additive dispensed controlled?
The volume of fuel additive dispensed is controlled by the length of time that the solenoid valves are activated by the Doser's Electronic Control Board while the additive pump is running.
The Doser provides for up to four fuel tanks having a different runs of tubing with different pressure drops.
Is the operational data stored?
Yes it is. The data includes total fuel, number of doses, number of missed doses through low additive level, and the calculated value of the total additive, which can be accessed via a laptop on site or remotely over a cellular network via an optional modem.
What material is our Doser tanks made from?
Our Doser tanks are made from VX562 HDPE (high density polyethylene), which complies with EU TUV Regulation ECE R34, Part 1, Annex 5 EU Directive 70/221/EEC for Diesel tank applications. The tanks are manufactured using the rotational moulding method.
As an option, we can also supply Stainless Steel or Aluminium Doser tanks.
Can the initial dosing rates be increased?
Yes they can. Our Dosers have the means to double the dosing ratio for a set number of the initial fuel fills. The number of fuel fills for double dosing is set on installation. Many additive suppliers recommend increasing the dosing ratio for the initial fuel fills to provide a boost to the cleaning properties.
Are our Dosers self-contained?
Yes they are. All of the components are housed within a weather tight compartment / tank recess.
Are our Automatic Additive Doser Systems autonomous?
Yes they are. They are autonomous systems with a self-contained Automatic Additive Doser comprising all of the components connected to the:
- fuel tank(s) via the additive tubing;
- fuel level sensor unit; and the,
- power supply.
